Amazon Black Friday deals 2022: our predictions for this year’s sale
This year’s Amazon Black Friday deals are landing sooner than you think. The retailer has just announced a Prime Day Early Access sale will be taking place between October 11th and 12th, which will not only act as a kind of ‘Amazon Prime Day 2’, but an early sneak-peek of the retailer’s Black Friday event. Stay tuned because it’s likely to offer a ton of awesome opportunities to bag some bargains well before Black Friday’s official date of November 25th.
Regardless of whether you’re thinking about shopping this early preview event or waiting until the Amazon Black Friday sale proper, this page is going to have all the best deals rounded up in neat categories. Until then, bookmark this page and check out all our predictions for this year’s event just down below.
We’ve included Amazon’s own data for its top-selling products here as well as our own favorite deals from last year’s event, in case you want to check them out. Overall, the retail landscape looks a lot different this year with worries of inflation and general cost of living increases. That said, we think the types of deals on offer should roughly be the same – give or take a few new models here or there so it’s worth taking a look at what last year’s Amazon Black Friday deals had to offer.
Amazon Black Friday sale: FAQ
When will the Amazon Black Friday sale start in 2022?
Black Friday falls on November 25th this year, although the retailer will be kicking off its Black Friday deals well ahead of this date. For 2022, the retailer will be kicking off a Prime Early Access sale on October 11 – 12, which will function as both an early Black Friday preview sale and an ‘Amazon Prime Day 2’ of sorts. In short, if you’re interested in some top deals from Amazon you’ll want to make sure you mark this date down and check in early this year.
After the Prime Early Access sale, we’re expecting things to quieten down for a while at the retailer before it launches into the Amazon Black Friday sale proper. For 2021, the retailer offered an ‘Epic Deals’ sale, which was available from late October onwards. This culminated in the ‘Amazon Black Friday sale’ proper in the week preceding the big day itself. The gap between the Prime Early Access sale and Black Friday itself is a little longer this year but we’re expecting a similar cadence of deals for 2022.

Are Amazon Black Friday deals better than Prime Day?
It’s a reasonable question when we consider that Amazon has its very own dedicated sale during the summer. When it comes down to which is better, though, it really depends on the kind of products you’re looking for.
Amazon Prime Day is when the retailer promises that prices on its own devices – such as its Kindle e-readers or Echo smart speakers – will be at their lowest of the year; whereas Amazon’s Black Friday deals regularly have record-low prices on a vast range of brands and products, from popular Apple products to home and kitchen items, fashion and more.
However despite what Amazon says, we regularly see Prime Day prices make a reappearance on Black Friday – including on its own devices. It’s also worth noting that only Prime members benefit from Prime Day (the clue’s in the name), whereas everyone can save during the Amazon Black Friday sale, with or without a subscription.
What Amazon Black Friday deals do we expect to see in 2022?
If 2021 was anything to go by, next year’s Amazon Black Friday sale will be the first instance in which we see some of the first big price slashes on new models unveiled by the likes of Apple. The Apple Watch Series 7 was announced on October 15, 2021 and its Amazon Black Friday price saw a decent saving available of $20. While not life-changing money, considering Apple never reduces its own products, this is incredible for such a new product.
The same was seen across both Apples AirPods and AirPods Pro, including the new Mag-Safe wireless charging case. You could also get 2020 and 2021 iPad models discounted, as well as M1-chip equipped MacBook Pro laptops. We’d expect to see similar again, with Amazon Black Friday deals leading the charge on those first big price drops on the latest tech.
Of course, it’ll also be a great opportunity to snap up reductions on Amazon’s own products across their many iterations. The Echo Dot 4th Gen saw a 40% price drop, as well as adding extra value to your money bundled up with smart light bulbs and Ring doorbells.
Amazon Black Friday deals are also chock full of TV deals of all sizes and price points, with $700 price slashes on LG’s OLED models, as well as a few hundred dollars off Amazon’s own Fire TV sets.
From Dyson and Shark, to Instant Pot, it’s an opportunity for savings on appliances, as well as homeware and mattresses, too.
Last year’s Amazon Black Friday sale
Last year’s Black Friday event overall
While Adobe Analytics reported a 1.3% drop in spending in the US on Black Friday (opens in new tab) in comparison to 2020, with a total spend of $8.9 billion, the month of November as a whole saw a record 11.9% growth, with spending hitting some $109.8 billion.
With early deals in October, consumers were not waiting around for discounts on big shopping days like Cyber Monday and Black Friday. This was further fueled by growing awareness of supply chain challenges and product availability.
Taylor Schreiner, Adobe Digital Insights
That’s a direct result of many people starting their holiday shopping early in 2021, following widespread reports of stock issues and delayed shipping.
“With early deals in October, consumers were not waiting around for discounts on big shopping days like Cyber Monday and Black Friday,” confirmed Taylor Schreiner, director, Adobe Digital Insights.
“This was further fueled by growing awareness of supply chain challenges and product availability. It spread out e-commerce spending across the months of October and November, putting us on track for a season that still will break online shopping records.”
So was Amazon affected by these issues? For some items, yes. We saw some of the best-selling products continually flashing in and out of stock, including Apple AirPods Pro, Fire Sticks, and Echo Dot smart speakers. By Black Friday, many of the retailer’s own devices were only available with a January delivery time. In general, though, the retailer was well-equipped to meet consumer demand across most categories.
Strong early deals
We saw some of the best Amazon Black Friday deals before Black Friday. While there were a few exceptions, many of the lowest prices appeared in the early sales, with some products even proving more expensive on the day than they had been a week prior. The Apple AirPods Pro, for instance, fell to a record-low price of $159 a few days before Black Friday, only to cost $10 more after Thanksgiving.
For popular items, then, our advice going into the Amazon Black Friday sale in 2022 would be to snap up good deals you see in the lead up. Black Friday itself no longer guarantees you the lowest price at Amazon: buying early can still save you a lot of money, and you’re more likely to get your items on time.
Record-breaking Black Friday at Amazon
Amazon says (opens in new tab) it had a record-breaking Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Toys, apparel, and homeware were some of its best-selling categories, and the retailer reports that its best-selling items were:
Surprising to absolutely no one, some of the best Amazon Black Friday deals were – once again – on the retailer’s own devices. There was up to 50% off the third-gen Echo Dot (opens in new tab) smart speaker, and the first price drop we saw on the new 4th-gen spherical iteration (opens in new tab). Similarly big savings were to be had on the Fire TV Stick, with 40% shaved off (opens in new tab) its usual cost.
Savvy shoppers could also pick up the Apple Airpods Pro with a new Magsafe wireless charging case for $189.99 (opens in new tab) – the lowest-ever price, although it went in and out of stock.
